Ocean Pie
Take one and a half pounds of good white fish (cod or haddock
seem to work very well) You could also use salmon.
Microwave it in a pint of milk and a whole load of chopped parsley
for three or four minutes. Drain the milk into a pan, take off any skin
and shred the cooked fish into a deep sided pie dish.
Next make a bechemal sauce in the pan, using the milk you
cooked the fish in, four onz. flour, a quarter pound of butter, some
grated cheddar cheese and a generous grating of nutmeg.- Stir
well.
When it thiickens pour it over the cooked fish. Add a half pound of
prawns (shrimp) and very important - a half pound of shredded
smoked mackeral. It's also nice to add some scallops if you like
them.
Stir all this together into a thick goo.
Next boil a couple pounds of potatoes, mash with some cream (or
milk) some grated cheddar cheese and freshly milled black
pepper. (You won't need any salt at all - the smoked fish and
shrimp have all you need). Don't make it too runny.
Spread this over the fish mixture in a thick layer and top off with a
bit more grated cheese and nutmeg,
Bake in a hot oven for 35-40 minutes.
When the top begins to brown, it's done. (This goes all crispy and
yummy)
It's great served with asparagus, green peas or broccoli.
If you enjoy fish at all, you will just love this dish and will never, ever
sneer again at the humble fish pie.

Did you put my recipe for Ocean Pie in or don't you think it would be
popular in the States? Here it is again - just in case.
OCEAN PIE or Captain's pie-
If you really can't stand the name fish pie.I admit the name isn't a
good one. In a belated answer to the Two Fat Ladies thread a
couple of pages back. I watched all their programmes-loved the
bike and biggles type hat.
I tried quite a few recipes and this one has evolved over the years.
You owe it to yourselves to try it before you scoff.
Terry.
