Piano Lessons in Round Rock, Texas, USA
I asked my students to write an essay about piano and music. Here is one of them, from a 7 y.o. girl who started lessons a year ago.
One afternoon, I was playing piano with my dad sitting by me. It was a new piece and I felt frustrated. I asked my dad whether I could quit piano. This was not the first time I had asked the same question. However, my dad gave me a different answer this time. It was yes. I was surprised and did not know what to say. After a while, I asked him whether he would sell the piano. My dad said yes again. Suddenly, I cried because I felt I was losing the piano. At that moment, I realized that the piano became an irreplaceable friend of mine.
Then, I told my dad that I would continue learning piano. Piano made me sit down. I always had a problem to focus on one thing at one time. It was a challenge for me to sit down and concentrate for one hour or longer. When I started to play piano, the beautiful music made me play one piece after another. We Three kings, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and others were my favorites. I played and sang them again and again. It's kind of fun to do so. When I had a new piece, I knew that I need keep practicing until finally I got it right. Soon, I'm going to have a competition. It makes me work harder and harder every day. Piano cheered me up. Whenever I was sad, mad, or frustrated, I just went to the piano and played my favorite pieces for a few minutes. My piano was like a good friend to me. It was like my best buddy whom I could talk to. When I had a hard time, my piano always was there for me. It made me happy again. My new favorite piece is Once Upon a Time because it is so cheerful!
Piano made me think more. Piano made me think all kinds of things about music. Who composed the piece? When was it composed? What happened when the piece was written? I had all those questions and tried to figure out myself using Google. Sad pieces made me think about sad things. A happy piece reminded me to think about happy things. When I had more and more thoughts, I wrote my first piano piece. One year ago, I started my piano lessons and had my first piano. Now, I like to play piano at home, school, and friends' houses. I enjoy showing my friends new pieces I learn. My dad said that I became hard-working, mature, and thoughtful. Piano might change me a lot or I am just growing up older. No matter what, the most important thing is that I gained a friend for a lifetime: my piano.
