Ref.: "Senate Votes To End Cuba Travel Ban."
New Orleans Times-Picayune, Friday October 24, 2003
Dear Senator Breaux:
I am writing to let you know that I strongly disagree with your vote to end the ban on travel to Cuba. I understand that this vote was part of an amendment incorporated into the budgets for both the Transportation and Treasury Departments which includes a salary increase for you. Frankly, I am tired of this type of tactic and certainly, I do not want you to get a pay increase.
Most of those who favor traveling to and trading with Cuba fail to understand that actions such as this, your recent vote, are in fact perpetuating the Castro regime. For the past 44 years, we, the freedom loving Cubans, have been fighting this evil Communist system responsible for the murder of tens of thousands, and the misery of millions. Never forget that Cuba is a terrorist state and a threat to our national security, even more than Iraq was. Cuba's participation in terrorism througout the world is well documented.
As long as you, our government, allows Communist Cuba various forms of support, the regime will continue to survive and oppress the Cuban people. Cubans will never see any of these aid and trade benefits. The Communist government of Cuba has been trading with Europe and the rest of the world for many years, and yet they are a total failure. (Not to mention all the crimes thay have committed.) The Marxist-socialist system is like a drug addict: They need more and more money and aid just as the drug addicts need more drugs.
Please stop helping our enemies. Yes, Communist Cuba is our enemy. But this tyranical regime of Castro will fall if you simply take a stand and quit sending tourists, dollars and other forms of aid. And at the same time, please, stop giving yourselves a salary increase along the way. I find this totally unaceptable. I am enclosing an article by Mr. Frank Calzon from the Center for a Free Cuba, "Beware of trading with Castro's Cuba." I hope you read it.
Sincerely,
Jorge A. Maspons
